Englafrique

The album Englafrique is a mix up of genres ranging from reggae to Crunk, West Coast hip hop, Golden Age hip hop, Detroit hip hop and dance music.  Although there is this mash up of genres, the album has a unique overall sound that Mrisi describes as Hip hop, English life with worldly experience.

Mrisi’s music is a mixture of many different musical styles. Being raised listening to reggae and African music, he has always incorporated these genres into the music. The music Mrisi found for him self was rap. His first album was Dr. Dre -The Chronic 2001, which was a huge influence in the sound of the hip hop that he makes. Other musical influences are jazz, soul and blues because those were the genres he was drawn to when listening to pianists.

Mrisi always tries to say something to his audience as he believes that although the music is equally as important, the words are where a rapper’s power really lies as they are how you convey your emotions. In Englafrique Mrisi tackles politics, girls, his life, family, being a role model and adds in some good old party rap.
